    A Letter Unsent

    Dear Granny,

I have been thinking about writing this letter for a long time, but I always find it difficult to put my thoughts into words. Today, I decided to sit down and finally write this letter to you. It’s not a regular letter; it’s more of a story from my childhood that I’ve been carrying with me for years.

When I was in grade three, I used to live in a small town called Maplewood. One of my closest friends, Sarah, lived next door. Every afternoon, after school, we would play together in her backyard. Sarah’s backyard was special because it had a big oak tree in the center, and underneath that tree was a hidden little garden. It wasn’t a big garden, just a small patch of soil where Sarah had planted some vegetables and flowers. She loved gardening and would spend hours tending to her plants.

One day, while we were playing, Sarah suddenly stopped and pointed to the oak tree. “Look,” she said excitedly, “there’s something wrong with the tree.” I followed her finger and noticed that a small part of the tree’s bark was peeling off. “Do you think it’s dying?” I asked, concerned. Sarah shook her head. “No, it’s just a small part. But I think it needs our help to get better.”

From that day on, after school, we would go to Sarah’s garden and collect some soil. We carefully wrapped the peeling bark in plastic and placed it in a small container. Every evening, before we went to bed, we would sit under the oak tree and talk to it. We told it stories about our day and asked it to get better. Sometimes, we even brought flowers from Sarah’s garden to give to the tree as gifts.

Months went by, and the small part of the tree’s bark that we had taken off slowly healed. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough for Sarah. She showed it to her teacher, and the teacher was amazed at how much care we had put into it. Sarah explained that she and I had been taking care of the tree, and the teacher smiled and said, “You two have a wonderful friendship.”

As time passed, our little secret became a memory that I will always cherish. It taught me the value of friendship, patience, and the importance of caring for something that needs a little extra love. I often think about that oak tree and how it helped us learn about taking responsibility and working together.

Granny, I know you love stories about my childhood, and I think this one will especially touch your heart. I just wanted to share this memory with you, even though I know I can’t send this letter. But I hope you can imagine it in your mind, just like I do.

    With all my love,
    Your Grandchild
    [Your Name]

P.S. I hope this letter finds you happy and healthy. I miss you very much.
